Not a lot of time to work on the rail road this spring but a little here and a little there, and we have some visible progress. Again, laying road bed with Woodland Scenes 20' rolls and DAP Bath Adhesive with a caulking gun and putty knife, you just sail along with this phase.
All of the basic bench work is completed. Will still need to set up working holes in the corners that tend to be at least 3 foot deep and can not be reached from the aisle. There is one pop up trap door in the large two level reverse loop that I will try to configure into a lake with logging on one side and mining on the other.
I thought I could get all the main lines set up and worry about the sidings and service tracks later, but time needs to be spent here to incorporate the turn outs from the mains where they will work the best. This meant a pretty good idea of what was going to go in each area, NOW, so I spent a lot of time with track magazines and books to settle in on what will go where. Then the actual track bed and track from the turn out will come later.
The double main lines are still working off one MRC basic power pack ... for testing and for playing around running my choo choo's. The DCC to be added later but wiring from the get go.

As I mentioned earlier, the vintage 1950's locomotives I found (EMD GP7, GP9, F7 and FM in ATSF livery) were NOT DCC ready (all except for one I just aquired) and I will have to hard wire them when the time comes (not looking forward to this.) Bought a bunch of Athearn rolling stock (from the '50's that Walters was removing from inventory for less than half normal, including a dozen 40' freight undecorated. I have established a grayish paint color and a bright green decaling (Heraldry) that will be my personal freight company, CAR-GO, Luedke Freight Lines. I have also settled on Kaydee Magnetic Couplers and as I complete kits I am using them instead of what is supplied. This is a little costly but the realism greatly out shines the cost (a few bucks per car). I will need to go back to the stock I bought used and convert them but they are mostly Athearn and their conversion is straight forward. Now I have to decide where to place the magnets, cut out the roadbed in those areas and add the magnets. I have played with this a bit and I think I have it all figured out.
